Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Saturday 5 February 2011

The Team Fortress 2 team has setup yet another cross promotional event, this time with the all new MMO, Rift. Players who pre-order it by March 1st will instantly receive two new melee items, the Sun on a Stick for the scout and a Sharpened Volcano Fragment for the Pyro. In return players in Rift who complete the Riftwar achievement in TF2 will recieve a Well Spun Hat.

The Sharpened Volcano Fragment is an axe replacement which does 20% less damage than the stock axe but sets victims on fire for an extended period of time, and cannot be put out by medipacks or a being healed by a medic. The Sun on a Stick on the other hand does 35% more damage than the stock bat, but only to burning players or buildings. Anyone not already on fire will take 45% less damage than normal. Rest assured that both items are fully giftable and tradeable and once the promotional period ends will have crafting recipes added.

For more information on how to get your hands on these brand new items, head on over to the From Hell Cross Promotional Page.

Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Sunday 23 January 2011

TF2Maps.net has announced it is holding its first annual Asymmetry Map Contest, a third party developer contest open to the general public. The map contest is based on Control Point maps, but instead of picking just one gamemode for the competition, developers are free to do (almost) any control point oriented map. Your choice of layout decides what other maps you compete against.

The contest will end on May 25th, 8:00 pm UTC (Check your timezone!). Submissions will open 1 week before the deadline.

As always, spoils for the champions. There will be First, second and third places for both categories of maps. First Place will receive 3 months of TF2Maps.net donor status and the Steam game of your choice. Second Place receives 3 months of TF2Maps.net donor status, Valve store Poster bundle, and 1 x random class TF2 keychain + 1 x TF2 card pack. Finally, Third Place picks up 1 month of TF2Maps.net donor status and 1 x random class TF2 keychain + 1 x TF2 card pack.

For more information, head on over to the Official Contest Page. Good luck!

Double Drop Rate Weekend

Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Friday 24 December 2010

In the giving spirit of the holidays, the Team Fortress team (or more specifically The Administrator) has announced that starting December 23rd and continuing through the 30th, the rate at which items drop will be doubled. This should keep the battlefield extra lively for the upcoming week.

"So it is that in a fit of holiday induced discomposure I requested that Mr. Hale increase his shipments of weapons and equipment for exactly one week. Do not, my dear reader, interpret this as a sign of approval. Do not mistake me for thinking you worthy of this gift. I am merely attempting to ensure that you are properly equipped for the duties that you are required to fulfill as detailed in the contract that each of you signed. There are control points that need capturing, intelligence that needs recovering, and hats to be secured.

For those of you with more beard on your necks than sense in your heads -- those of you who feel compelled to analyze my every word with the exacting scrutiny of the socially disenfranchised -- I will provide the tedious technical details. From December 23rd to December 30th, a period of exactly one week, the rate at which items drop will be doubled. You might call this a "Double Drop Rate Week," but I call it an act of mercy. After all, we can't very well send you charging into battle without a proper gun now can we?

The Australian Christmas Update

Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Sunday 19 December 2010

The fans wanted it, and now they got it: it's a Team Fortress 2 Australian Christmas Update! The update, which kicked off this week, is interestingly based in medieval times and features all new weapons, headgear , and a brand map & game mode called Medieval Mode. In this map players compete for control points with melee weapons only, making for a bloody old school battle previously unseen in TF2 game play.

Oh and don't forget to get into the Christmas spirit by donating to the lowly and far under appreciated community map developers. This week, the Mann Co. store is giving players the ability to make a small donation that will be given to community map makers by purchasing a collectible stamp. Donors will also get an exclusive hat which resembles something out of Master and Commander.

As always, to get the latest Team Fortress 2 update simply restart your Steam Client and let the update run its course. Enjoy!

Poker Visor Now Available

Posted by: Yourcatch22 | Sunday 7 November 2010

To celebrate the official kickoff of the Inventory Pre-Order in the Steam Store, the Team Fortress team has announced that anyone who orders Inventory will receive an exclusive visor for your Heavy class. Plus, once the game is released, you'll also be able to unlock new TF2 items by beating The Heavy, Max, Tycho, or Strong Bad at high stakes games of poker.

Checkout the details below, and head on over to the Inventory Game Page to pre-order your copy today!

"his is pretty exciting to us - it's the first time a game made by someone other than us allows you to find TF2 items by playing it. If you'd asked us, as we slaved away on TF2 back in '63, whether one day you'd be able to get the Heavy's first minigun off him by playing poker, we'd think you were nuts. Then we'd have hired you, because you had a vision for the future.

If you're curious, here's the set of items that you'll be able to collect inside Poker Night at the Inventory:

- The Enthusiast's Timepiece - Tycho's favorite timepiece (equippable by the Spy)
- License to Maim - Max's Badge (equippable by all classes)
- The Lugermorph - A second chance at Max's personal armament (equippable by the Scout and the Engineer)
- The Iron Curtain - The Heavy's first love (equippable by the Heavy, obviously)
- Dangeresque, Too? - Strong Bad's styling glasses (equippable by the Demoman)"
